Many of the independent apparel retailers we work with carefully curate their offerings to stand out from the crowd, but with so many fast-fashion stores such as H&amp;M being able to manufacture runway-inspired looks in just a few weeks, how do independent stores stay ahead of the trends? We conducted a flash survey of independent retailers to get a better idea of how buyers are sourcing the best styles. Here is Where Do Retailers Look to Discover Brands and Designers?.<\/p>\n<p>Ask yourself: how does your buying strategy compare to some of these stats?<\/p>\n<p>In a flash survey of independent retail decision-makers, Lightspeed found:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Social Media Drives Trend Discovery<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>73% of respondents use social media to discover the latest trends in fashion, more than any other channel<\/li>\n<li>Nearly a third of retailers attend fashion shows to see what\u2019s going to be hot next season<\/li>\n<li>Celebrity style is the least influential mode of discovery for retailers \u2013 less than 25% are looking to celebrity style to discover the latest fashions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/iconicerp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/49429178.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-15252 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/iconicerp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/49429178.jpg\" alt=\"Where Do Retailers Look to Discover Brands and Designers?\" width=\"1000\" height=\"700\" srcset=\"https:\/\/iconicerp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/49429178.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/iconicerp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/49429178-430x301.jpg 430w, https:\/\/iconicerp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/49429178-150x105.jpg 150w, https:\/\/iconicerp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/49429178-700x490.jpg 700w, https:\/\/iconicerp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/49429178-300x210.jpg 300w, https:\/\/iconicerp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/49429178-768x538.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a>Retailer Validation is Key<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>While social media plays a huge role in trend discovery, peer validation is king when it comes to purchasing considerations for retailers. Retailers say that \u201cwhere else the brand is carried\u201d is the most important factor when considering a new line; a designer\u2019s social media following came in at the bottom of the ranks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Retailers Want to Get Touchy Feely<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>70% of retailers are scouring showrooms and trade shows to discover new designers<\/li>\n<li>One retailer said \u201cWe\u2019ve had the most success selling the clothes that we\u2019ve been able to touch and try on. Make your presence known!\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>There\u2019s Hope for New Designers:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Retailers are always on the hunt for fresh designers. Almost 30% of independent retailers said they dedicate 10-15% of their inventory to new designers; 50% are willing to allocate 5-10%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Many fashion retailers we work with have told us they religiously attend tradeshows and visit showrooms often, but social media has become a huge influence.
